Dear Dog Owner
Thank you for considering Dog School where only positive, reward-based methods of training are used and responsible dog ownership is encouraged. I have been teaching classes for 4 years and qualified as a PDTI intermediate instructor in 2007 and am a Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme examiner. Having attended many practical and theoretical workshops and seminars I am now studying for a foundation degree in canine behaviour and training.
Dog School offers foundation group courses suitable for all dogs with little or no training and a group family class for dogs that progress from the foundation courses. As a Kennel Club listed training club I can offer the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Schemes from puppy foundation to silver level. Classes are for pet dogs and not competitive obedience. Group classes will not help dogs that are aggressive or fearful towards people and/or dogs, please call me to discuss. You should check with your vet to rule out any medical reason for these behaviours before seeking expert behavioural advice. New puppy home visits and one to one training is available by arrangement.
Throughout the foundation course you will be teaching your dog to pay attention, sit, stand, down, stay, wait, loose lead walking, leave and take, handling and grooming, come back when called and not to jump up to greet people. Advice is given on housetraining, chewing, play biting, indoor kennels, home alone, safety, children, play, car travel, food handling, insurance and dog law.
Classes are held in St Anne's Church Hall, School Road, Oldland Common, Bristol from 6.30pm on Monday evenings and Twerton Village Hall, Landseer Road, Twerton, Bath from 6.30pm on Friday evenings (except the first Friday of each month). Classes last for 45 miuntes and to maximise learning class numbers are kept to an optimum number. You are welcome to watch a class (without your dog) before booking.
Each course lasts for a block of six weeks and you are not able to defer classes if for any reason you are cannot attend. The cost of a six week course is £42 and is payable on booking. Please check there is a place on the course and you will be sent a booking form. Your place on a course is only secured upon receipt of the booking form and payment. You will then be contacted by email or telephone to confirm the arrangements. Cancellation fees are payable, please read the terms and conditions.
All of the family are encouraged to attend classes as this ensures consistency in training. For safety and the interests of training, children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
